Singapore Airlines has cancelled four flights between Singapore and Taipei on Friday, October 23, because of weather conditions associated with Typhoon Champi.
The cancellations affect services in both directions between Singapore Changi Airport and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The airline has warned that further flights could also be affected if weather conditions change.
Which Singapore Airlines Flights Have Been Cancelled?
According to an official advisory published by Singapore Airlines on October 22, the following services scheduled for October 23 have been cancelled:
- SQ876: Singapore to Taipei
- SQ877: Taipei to Singapore
- SQ878: Singapore to Taipei
- SQ879: Taipei to Singapore
The cancellations affect two flights in each direction. Passengers travelling between Singapore and Taipei on the affected date should check their booking details before going to the airport.
Typhoon Champi Raises Travel Concerns in East Asia
Typhoon Champi has prompted airlines to monitor weather conditions and adjust flight operations in parts of East Asia. Severe weather can affect airport operations, flight safety decisions and the ability of aircraft to operate according to schedule.
Singapore Airlines said the situation remained fluid when it issued its advisory. The carrier warned that additional flights could be affected, depending on how conditions develop.
Travellers should not assume that every Singapore–Taipei service has been cancelled. The confirmed cancellations in the airline's notice relate specifically to SQ876, SQ877, SQ878 and SQ879 on October 23.
What Should Affected Passengers Do?
Singapore Airlines says it will contact affected customers to inform them of changes to their flight arrangements. Passengers should also check the airline's official flight-status information for the latest updates.
Customers affected by the cancellations may request to be accommodated on alternative flights or seek a full refund of the unused portion of their ticket.
- Passengers who booked directly with Singapore Airlines: They can use the airline's assistance request form to request a refund where applicable.
- Passengers who booked through a travel agent or partner airline: They should contact the company that issued their booking for assistance.
- Passengers with onward connections: They should review their complete itinerary, including connecting flights and any separate bookings.
Travellers are advised to keep their contact details updated in the airline's Manage Booking service so they can receive schedule notifications.
Will More Flights Be Affected?
At the time of the airline's announcement, Singapore Airlines had not ruled out further disruptions. Weather-related changes can be made at short notice, so passengers scheduled to travel between Singapore and Taipei should continue checking their flight status.
The airline has apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience and advised them to follow official updates rather than rely on previously published schedules.
