Air Canada will increase its nonstop service between Lyon, France, and Montreal, Canada, for part of the 2027 summer season, giving travelers in southeastern France more options for crossing the Atlantic.
The airline plans to add a sixth weekly round trip between Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) from June 28 to September 4, 2027. The additional service will raise the planned frequency from five to six weekly round trips during that period.
The announcement was reported by Aéroports de Lyon, which confirmed the route's seasonal aircraft plans and the airline's wider network connections through Montreal.
Air Canada increases Lyon–Montreal flights for summer 2027
The additional frequency is designed to provide greater flexibility during the busy summer travel period. The Lyon–Montreal route connects France's Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region with Canada and offers onward connections across North America.
Air Canada launched the nonstop route in 2016. The service has since become an important link for leisure and business travelers, including passengers connecting beyond Montreal to other destinations.
The sixth weekly round trip is planned specifically for the period between June 28 and September 4, 2027. Travelers should check the airline's booking system for operating days, flight times and availability for their chosen dates.
Airbus A321XLR planned for the summer schedule
Air Canada plans to operate the Lyon–Montreal route with the Airbus A321XLR during the summer 2027 season. The single-aisle aircraft is designed for longer routes and allows airlines to operate certain transatlantic services with a smaller aircraft than a traditional wide-body jet.
The A321XLR began operating on the Lyon–Montreal route in September 2026, according to the airport's announcement. Air Canada subsequently planned to switch to the Airbus A330 from October 25, 2026, for the winter schedule, with four weekly flights during the winter season.
The airline expects to return the A321XLR to the route in summer 2027. Aircraft assignments and schedules can change, so passengers should confirm the aircraft listed for their specific flight before departure.
Connections to the United States, Canada and the Caribbean
Montreal is an important connecting hub for Air Canada. From Montréal-Trudeau, passengers arriving from Lyon can connect to destinations across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Airports of Lyon has highlighted access to more than 200 destinations through Montreal and Air Canada's wider network. The extra weekly flight may therefore benefit travelers whose final destination is beyond Canada, as well as passengers visiting Montreal itself.
Travelers connecting to the United States can also use the U.S. preclearance facilities at Montreal, where eligible passengers complete U.S. immigration and customs procedures before boarding their onward flight. Entry requirements and required travel documents still apply.
