Mexican airline Aeroméxico is expanding its United States network with three new nonstop routes from Mexico City, adding services to Orange County in California, Fort Lauderdale in Florida and Portland in Oregon starting in January 2027.
The new routes will operate daily throughout the year using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The announcement follows the US Department of Transportation’s decision to lift restrictions that had limited Mexican airlines’ ability to introduce additional services from Mexico City.
Three New Routes From Mexico City
Aeroméxico will launch the services on different dates in January 2027. All three routes will connect Mexico City International Airport (MEX) with US destinations that the airline says will gain new nonstop service from the Mexican capital.
- Mexico City–Orange County (SNA): Starts January 11, 2027.
- Mexico City–Fort Lauderdale (FLL): Starts January 14, 2027.
- Mexico City–Portland (PDX): Starts January 21, 2027, with the first return departure from Portland scheduled for January 22.
The services will operate daily, subject to schedule changes. Tickets are available through Aeroméxico and Delta Air Lines sales channels.
Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft to Operate the Flights
Aeroméxico plans to use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft configured for 166 passengers on the three routes. The cabin layout includes 16 seats in Premier Class, 18 in AM Plus and 132 in Economy.
Personal seatback entertainment will be available throughout the cabin, according to the airlines’ announcement.
The daily services will provide travellers with additional nonstop options between Mexico City and three different US markets, covering Southern California, South Florida and the Pacific Northwest.
Why Orange County, Fort Lauderdale and Portland?
Orange County gives passengers access to Southern California’s coastal communities and attractions around Anaheim. Fort Lauderdale offers access to South Florida’s beaches and cruise facilities, while Portland provides a gateway to Oregon and the wider Pacific Northwest.
The new routes also extend Aeroméxico and Delta’s joint network from Mexico City to 27 destinations in the United States. According to the announcement, Aeroméxico will be the only airline operating nonstop flights between Mexico City and each of these three destinations when the new services begin.
US Lifts Restrictions on New Mexican Airline Services
The expansion follows a regulatory change announced in October 2026. The US Department of Transportation revoked an order introduced in 2025 that had restricted certain existing, proposed and future schedules operated by Mexican airlines between Mexico and the United States.
Aeroméxico confirmed the decision in a company announcement dated October 19. The change allows the airline to add frequencies and introduce new scheduled services from Mexico City International Airport and Felipe Ángeles International Airport, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.
The decision followed a dispute between the two countries over aviation arrangements, including access to airport slots and the relocation of cargo operations. However, the lifting of these schedule restrictions does not mean that every regulatory issue between the countries has been resolved.
What the Expansion Means for Travellers
The new flights will give passengers more direct travel options between Mexico City and three US destinations. They may also offer additional connecting opportunities through Aeroméxico’s Mexico City hub and the airline’s commercial partnership with Delta.
Travellers should check departure times, fares, baggage conditions and any schedule changes directly with the airline before booking. Flight times are local, and published schedules may change.
