Noida Airport Expands Routes, Eyes International Flights and Cargo Growth

October 27, 2026 | Aiports | India

Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is expanding its domestic network and preparing for international operations as it seeks to become a second major aviation gateway for India’s National Capital Region. Airport management says international cargo services are expected to begin in the coming weeks, followed by international passenger flights in subsequent months, subject to regulatory approvals and airline decisions.

The airport, which began commercial operations in June 2026, is developing its airline network, cargo facilities and aircraft maintenance business. The strategy is designed to complement Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while providing additional capacity and travel options for northern India.

Domestic Network Grows to 16 Destinations

According to Noida International Airport chief executive Nitu Samra, the airport has expanded from five destinations at launch to 16 domestic destinations. IndiGo and Akasa Air currently operate an average of 35 daily flights, according to an interview published by The Financial Express on October 27.

The airport expects further additions to its network during the winter schedule. However, individual airlines will determine which routes to launch and how many aircraft to allocate, based on commercial demand, fleet availability and operational planning.

Airport management is also working to improve the passenger experience and ground transport connections. These factors will be important as the airport seeks to attract more travellers and establish a sustainable network.

International Flights Planned for the Coming Months

Noida International Airport is preparing to expand beyond its current domestic network. Management says international cargo operations are planned to start in the coming weeks, with international passenger services expected in subsequent months.

The airport is in discussions with airlines serving West Asia, Southeast Asia and other international markets. These regions are potential areas for future connectivity, but specific airlines, destinations and launch dates have not yet been confirmed in the latest report.

The start of international passenger services will depend on regulatory approvals, market conditions and the network plans of airline partners. Travellers should therefore wait for official airline announcements before making plans based on a proposed new route.

Cargo Operations Could Become a Major Business

Air freight is another important part of the airport’s development strategy. The cargo terminal, operated by Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS), has an initial annual handling capacity of approximately 250,000 metric tonnes, with the potential to expand to 1.5 million tonnes.

The airport’s location near industrial and manufacturing areas in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana could help it serve businesses shipping electronics, textiles, pharmaceuticals and other goods.

Management is engaging with domestic and international logistics operators to develop services such as express freight, cold-chain handling and general cargo. International cargo operations are expected to add another dimension to the airport’s role in regional trade, once the necessary operational arrangements are in place.

Freighter Flights and Aircraft Maintenance Plans

The airport is also building its freighter network. Agreements involving SpiceXpress and Totsol Aviation envisage around 200 livestock freighter flights between September 2026 and August 2027.

Noida International Airport has also received a freighter flight operated by Afcom Holdings from Chennai, carrying nearly 20 tonnes of mixed cargo, according to the airport’s management.

Beyond cargo handling, the airport plans to develop maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, aircraft parking and other aviation-related businesses. A planned Akasa Air MRO facility is intended to support aircraft maintenance activity and create skilled employment opportunities.

Ground Connectivity Remains Important

Access to the airport is a key part of its growth strategy. Without a direct metro or rail connection currently serving the terminal, passengers depend on road transport and connecting services.

Available options include airport taxis, app-based ride-hailing services, chauffeur-driven rentals, state transport buses and intercity coach connections. The airport has also partnered with redBus to provide access to bookable intercity bus services.

Improving the journey to and from the terminal will be important in attracting passengers from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and neighbouring areas. Convenient ground transport can help determine whether travellers choose the new airport instead of established alternatives.

A Complementary Gateway for the Delhi Region

Noida International Airport is intended to complement Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport rather than simply duplicate its role. Additional capacity could give airlines more options and improve access for passengers in western Uttar Pradesh and the wider National Capital Region.

Its long-term growth will depend on passenger demand, airline investment, cargo volumes, transport connections and the timely completion of planned facilities.

The next major milestones will be the commencement of international cargo operations and the confirmation of international passenger services. Until airlines publish their schedules and the required approvals are secured, the proposed international expansion should be treated as a plan rather than a confirmed launch date.
