GENOA, Italy — October 24, 2026 — Flights between Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport and Munich Airport are scheduled to return to a twice-daily service on March 28, 2027, strengthening the Italian city's connections with one of Germany's major aviation hubs.
The announcement was confirmed by Genoa Airport on October 22. The flights will be operated by Air Dolomiti, a member of the Lufthansa Group, during the summer 2027 schedule period.
Two Daily Flights Planned from March 2027
From March 28, 2027, the Genoa–Munich route is scheduled to offer two flights per day in each direction, according to the airport's announcement.
One of the aircraft will remain overnight in Genoa before operating a morning departure to Munich the following day. This arrangement, often known as a night stop, can help provide an earlier departure from the Italian airport and more opportunities to connect with onward flights.
Passengers should check the airline's booking system for the exact operating times and availability for their travel dates, as schedules may change.
Why Is the Munich Connection Important?
Munich Airport is a major hub in the Lufthansa Group network. Restoring two daily services gives travellers departing from Genoa more opportunities to connect through Munich to other destinations.
Depending on the schedule and the available connection, passengers may be able to continue their journeys to cities across Germany, other parts of Europe and selected long-haul destinations.
The route can be relevant to both leisure and business travellers. It also provides an additional connection for visitors travelling between Bavaria and the Ligurian region of northwestern Italy, whose capital is Genoa.
Air Dolomiti to Operate the Flights
Although the route is associated with Lufthansa's network, the services are scheduled to be operated by Air Dolomiti, the Italian regional airline within the Lufthansa Group.
Air Dolomiti operates regional services connecting Italian airports with Lufthansa Group hubs. These flights can feed passengers into larger networks, allowing travellers to reach destinations beyond the route's two endpoints.
For passengers, the practical details to check include the operating airline, flight times, baggage allowance and whether connecting flights are included on the same ticket.
A Boost for Genoa Airport's Connectivity
The return to two daily flights forms part of a wider effort to maintain and develop Genoa's international connections. Access to a major hub can be particularly valuable for an airport whose local market may not generate enough demand for direct services to every international destination.
Instead of relying exclusively on nonstop flights, passengers can use Munich as a transfer point to reach a wider range of cities. The usefulness of the connection will depend on the onward schedules and the time available between flights.
When Will the Service Resume?
The twice-daily Genoa–Munich service is scheduled to resume on March 28, 2027, at the start of the summer 2027 aviation schedule period.
Travellers planning spring or summer trips should consult the official airport and airline websites before booking. Published schedules can change, and not every onward connection will be available on every day.
