Air India Suspends Some European Flights for Winter 2026–27

By Flight Travel News | October 18, 2026

Air India is reducing its European flight network for the 2026–27 winter season, with planned suspensions affecting services between New Delhi and destinations in the United Kingdom and Austria.

The changes include flights between Delhi and Birmingham, as well as the Delhi–Vienna route. The developments were reported by aviation industry publications in October as airlines adjusted their schedules for the winter season.

Delhi–Vienna Flights to Be Suspended

Air India plans to suspend its nonstop service between Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Vienna International Airport in Austria at the end of October 2026.

The route has provided a direct connection between India and Austria. Its suspension will remove Air India's nonstop service between the two cities, although travelers may still be able to reach Vienna through connecting flights operated by other airlines.

Delhi–Birmingham Service Also Affected

Air India's three-times-weekly service between Delhi and Birmingham in England is also scheduled to be suspended at the beginning of November.

The changes affect passengers traveling between northern India and the United Kingdom, who may need to consider alternative departure cities, connecting flights or different travel dates.

A separate Amritsar–Birmingham service has also been reported as affected by winter schedule changes. Passengers should check their specific booking before making alternative arrangements.

Why Are Airlines Adjusting Their European Networks?

Airlines regularly revise seasonal schedules in response to operating costs, passenger demand, aircraft availability and changes in flight routes or airspace access.

Industry reports have also highlighted higher fuel costs and airspace restrictions as challenges for airlines operating between India and Europe. However, Air India has not publicly confirmed a single specific reason for every route change covered in these reports.

What Should Passengers Do?

Travelers holding tickets for the affected routes should check their booking directly with Air India before going to the airport. They should confirm whether their flight is operating, whether their itinerary has changed and what rebooking options are available.

Passengers who have not booked yet should check current schedules and fares before making travel plans. Alternative routes may involve a connection and a longer journey.

Flight schedules can change, and the exact dates of suspension may differ by route. The airline's booking system and official customer service should be used to confirm the latest information.
